What is RSS ?
RSS (Rich Site Summary) is a format for delivering regularly changing web content.
Why RSS ?
RSS solves a problem for people who regularly use the web. It allows you to easily stay informed by retrieving the latest content from the sites you are interested in. You save time by not needing to visit each site individually.
A benefit of RSS over email is that as you have actively subscribed to a feed you can be sure that the information will not be lost in a spam or junk folder; you should never miss addition of new content such as events, training sessions, general information etc...
One disadvantage is when new events are added to the calendar it is possible the organizer of the event may also opt to send you an email of the new event, in this case you will receive two notifications for the same event; one to your email client and one to your RSS reader. To overcome this you could opt to disable New content notification emails as these emails are generally sent for the same content that is included in RSS feeds.
What do I need to do to read an RSS Feed ?
Feed Reader or News Aggregator software allow you to grab the RSS feeds from various sites and display them for you to read and use.
A variety of RSS Readers are available for different platforms, most desktop email clients have the ability to add an RSS feed as a new account. There are also a number of web-based feed readers available; My Yahoo, Bloglines, and Google Reader are popular web-based feed readers.
How do I subscribe ?
Under the Personal Details section of your View Details page there is an entry titled RSS feed url and the url displayed is your unique feed url.
