Underwater and Coastal Cleanup

Underwater and Coastal Cleanup
Updates 19/09/23
This event that is jointly organised by ST John Malta together with Coast is Clear, Nature Trust and Cirkewwa Marine Park, is going to be well attended by divers from dive schools and also snorkellers, kayakers and land cleaners from the Coast is Clear and other NGOs, therefore looks like it’s going to be a successful clean-up and we will enjoy it.
We will be helping in various ways, being in the actual clean-up, the organisation of the event and safety of participants. We will have briefings on site and split tasks accordingly.
As regards to uniform, water trained Rescuers can wear the Life-Guard uniform and swim suits, whilst the rest are to wear the St John Uniform. For swimming, those who do not have the St John swimwear can obviously use their own. During the clean-up, as it is going to be held next to the sea and the weather still seems to be warm, those that don’t have the Life-Guard uniform, can wear the St John t-shirt, St John Baseball cap, a dark shorts, and runners. It’s important that we be in unform as instructed as there is going to be media around and we need to gain good PR for the project.
As regards to kit please inform us as soon as possible if you need any items, such as Snorkelers, fins and a mask for the snorkelling or any other kit. Please inform me so that we get them on loan from the diving school that is sponsoring this event. Divers, the sponsor will be supplying us with cylinders and we will be using our own diving kit but inform me if you require anything so that I can request them.
As regards to timing we will be leaving the fort at 08:10 so try to be there by 07:50.
Update 24-09-2023
Just a reminder to register if attending this event as we have to do final preparations especially if you need fins and mask for the snorkelling so that we loan them from the diving school sponsor.
Also, if you are not diving or swimming you can also participate as we need supporting crew on land to help in the coordination, support swimmers and divers and also, we need an ambulance crew to be on stand-by.
Update 17-09-2023
The Underwater Clean-Up for Saturday 30th September at Paradise Bay orgainsed jointly with the ÄŠirkewwa Marine Park and The Coast is Clear from 09:00 to 12:30. The location of the clean-up is on the side of the Paradise Bay Hotel and the South Quay area.
The clean-up will be made by means of scuba diving, snorkelling and also on land, therefore all St John Members can participate in this marine life protection activity. We also need Members to assist in logistical support and we need an ambulance crew to be on stand-by.
The Scouts are also joining to help us on land, but if you know friends that want to join especially divers, they are welcome to do so but we need to be informed so that we plan accordingly. We will be providing cylinders for qualified divers through a sponsor, but they have to use their own kits.
Please register if available so that we start planning.
